Dr. Mario R. Briones is named the new President of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), May 21.
The third president of the university was elected by the LSPU Board of Regents (BOR), headed by Commissioner Lilian A. De Las Llagas of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the CHED Office, Diliman, Quezon City.
The former Campus Director of LSPU-San Pablo City took his oath on the same day, right after the election, officially sealing his assumption.
The spirants whom Dr. Briones competed with were Dr. Reymundo P. Arcega of the University of Makati, Dr. Maria Victoria O. Espaldon of the University of the Philippines, and Dr. Colegio S. Gascon of the Laguna University.
Prior to the election of the BOR, a public forum and an interview were conducted at the LSPU Main campus on May 7 wherein the aspirants were formally introduced to the stakeholders. In the morning, the aspirants introduced themselves and their vision and mission for the university once in assumption during the public forum; likewise, they were asked questions from the different sectors of the university such as students, alumni, faculty and personnel. In the afternoon, a closed-door intensive interview was conducted before the search committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).
President Briones started his assumption the next day, May 22.
