CIET leads 3-day IP training workshop

The Center for Innovation and Emerging Technologies (CIET) spearheaded a three-day training workshop on intellectual property (IP) among students and faculty of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), held at the Research and Development Hall, LSPU-Siniloan Campus (LSPU-SC), April 17-19.

Aimed at amplifying the call for IP Management through Technology Transfer and Commercialization in the university, the CIET collaborated with the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBPM), and Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubation DOST PCAARRD (ATBI) to educate the participants on how to navigate the world of IP through creation of value fostering Tech Transfer and Commercialization.

The said workshop is in line with the celebration of Intellectual Property Month in the country under Proclamation No. 190, s.2017, to promote “public appreciation of the significance of intellectual property in relation to the country’s social, cultural, economic, and technological development.”

The first day of the workshop focused on the topics “Intellectual Property 101” and “Patent Drafting” by Mr. Dan Azriel N. San Agustin, Chairperson of ITSO LSPU-SC, and Dr. Victoria E. Tamban, ITSO Manager, respectively.

Dr. Juliet A. Caramonte, CIET Director, and Dr. Robert C. Agatep, Vice President for Research Development and Extension, also graced the opening day with their message of support for the initiatives and future ventures of the participants in IP.

Meanwhile, the second day was composed of lectures on “Creation of Value through Intellectual Property Management” by Dr. Caramonte and “Technology Business Incubation Process” by Ms. Mary Ann L. Barile, ATBI Project Manager.

Finally, the last day of the workshop went over the “Patent Search Lecture” by Engr. Isabelita T. Domingo, ATBI Project Leader. After the awarding of certificates, Mr. San Agustin closed the workshop by expressing thanks to the participants and the people behind the three-day activity.

CIET oversees and coordinates the operations of the ITSO, IPTBM, and ATBI to ensure effective and efficient management and commercialization of the university technologies and innovations.

According to Dr. Caramonte, the IPTBM office will be assessing the research technology outputs of the University in order to realize its market and commercialization potential.
