CHMT Skills Summit 2024 concludes with Gabi ng Parangal a night of recognition and cultural celebration

The College of Hospitality Management and Tourism (CHMT) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Los Baños Campus (LSPU-LBC) wrapped up its four-day CHMT Skills Summit with the “Gabi ng Parangal,” celebrating the efforts of students, faculty, and officials, June 7.

“Ang gabi ng parangal ay para sa inyo… Today is the day to celebrate the hard work, camaraderie, and dedication of all CHMT students,” CHMT Associate Dean Aprilyn E. Etorma emphasized during the event.

In her inspirational message, Ms. Dian M. Guia, adviser of the LSPU-LBC Association of Hospitality Management and Tourism Students (AHMTS), shared her journey from being a student to becoming an adviser. She encouraged the students to dream big, build self-confidence, work hard, love their profession, and trust in the Creator.

One of the highlights of the summit was the awarding of certificates of appreciation to selected alumni entrepreneurs, recognizing their achievements and contributions. Among them was Mr. Jerome Juta, owner of Anchor’s Mobile Café, who advised aspiring entrepreneurs to keep striving for their dreams and always be grateful to their support systems.

“Sa mga gustong mag-business, i-pursue n’yo lang kung anong gusto ninyo. Lagi kayong magpapasalamat sa mga tumutulong sa inyo at balikan ninyo sila kapag narating niyo na ‘yong success,” Mr. Juta said.

The students and faculty also showcased their barong and Filipiniana outfits on a red carpet, celebrating the rich culture of the Philippines. The event featured the results of the summit competitions, including the Tourism and Hospitality Young Entrepreneurs Summit (THYES) booth expo, yell competition, personal development workshop, turbulence announcement, flight safety demonstration, table skirting, table set-up competition, bed making competition, front office service, cook-off competition, HM & TM quiz bee, waiter’s relay, mocktail competition, MICE proposal, virtual tour guiding, fruit and vegetable carving, cake decorating competition, and tour package proposal.

The overall winners were the following: Mimaropa, third place; Central Visayas, second place; CARAGA, first place; and Bicol, champion.

Present during the awarding were Faculty Regent Dr. Chester Alexis C. Buama, CHMT faculty headed by Associate Dean Aprilyn E. Etorma, and the AHMTS under the guidance of Ms. Dian M. Guia.###
