The main campus prevailed!
The Santa Cruz Campus (SCC) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) scored their way to the top spot of the LSPU Basketball Tournament 2023 held at the Aquino Sports Gymnasium, LSPU-San Pablo City Campus, Dec. 21.
The delegates of the SCC championed over those of Siniloan Campus (SC), San Pablo City Campus (SPCC), and Los Baños Campus (LBC), having been first, second, and third placers, respectively. Participants were awarded certificates and cash prizes during the closing ceremony.
A friendly game among teaching and non-teaching employees of the university across campuses, the LSPU Basketball Tournament 2023 was conducted in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the celebration of World Basketball day.
During his welcome remarks, A/Prof. Joel M. Bawica emphasized the importance the university gives to sports and its employees.
“Hindi lang po academics ang ating pinapalakas at binigbigyan ng importansya, gayundin po and sports,” CD Bawica said. “At hindi lamang po ang ating mga estudyante, kundi kasama rin po ang ating mga empleyado.
Dr. Mario R. Briones, University President, also expressed his optimism for the conduct of the activity, saying that the basketball tournament exemplifies the university’s appreciation of sports and camaraderie.
He also reminded the participants of keeping sportsmanship throughout the program, wishing that everyone would be safe and in good condition at the end of the games.
President Briones also led the ceremonial jump ball, officially starting the games.
Mr. Demetrio Dimatulac, Chairperson for Sports, explained the mechanics and order of the games.
For this closing message, A/Prof. Francis Jose dela Cruz, Director for Sports, chimed in the possibility of continuing this kind of tournament in the future, observing the excitement it brought among the participants.
Mr. Chester Derequito served as the master of the ceremonies.
