LSPU Highly Recommended for ISO recertification

The Laguna State Polytechnic University’s (LSPU) commitment to quality standards paid off after receiving the feedback of “highly recommended” for ISO 9001:2015 recertification from the lead auditor of the second surveillance audit, Oct 12.

Mr. Lionell Aala, Lead Auditor from TÜV Rheinland, expressed this positive overall observation during the closing program of the two-day audit at the Function Hall of the College of Teacher Education (CTE), LSPU-San Pablo City Campus (SPCC).

Mr. Aala also presented a number of positive findings, 21 opportunities for improvements, and two minor non-conformities based on the findings from the onsite interview and auditing conducted among the four sites (campuses) of the university by the four external auditors composed of Mr. Aala, Jogina Mendiola, Mary Grace Balobalo, and Roland Remitar.

Positive findings include the high passing rate in licensure examinations, target-exceeding extension partnerships and research outputs, various institutional awards, top notchers, and other exemplary achievements. Meanwhile, opportunities for improvement cover the areas of internal audit, library learning resource center, student affairs, facilities, curriculum, management, and research development, among others. Finally, the two minor non-conformities are about the design and development outputs.

Mr. Aala clarified that the university needs to submit documented corrective actions for the non-conformities as evidence of plans to materialize its commitment to comply with the standards.

“You generate the future, our students,” said Mr. Aala in relation to the findings of the auditing team. “As much as possible, we want this future to be alive.” He added that the good influence of the university may be extended not only to the constituents of Laguna but also to other nearby provinces and even international students.

“I stand before you to reaffirm the LSPU’s commitment to quality service,” shared Dr. Mario R. Briones, University President of LSPU, in his statement of commitment. “We will do everything in our power to prepare our students. We pledge to provide a dynamic and conducive learning environment.”

Senior officials and selected process owners from SPCC, Sta. Cruz Campus (SCC), and Siniloan Campus (SC) attended the onsite closing ceremony while other process owners from Los Banos Campus (LBC) and other campuses participated virtually.
Ms. Lorena Garcia, Chairperson for Quality Assurance (QA), served as the lady of the ceremony.

The second surveillance audit was spearheaded by the QA team, led by Dr. Albert D. Yazon, Director for QA; QA officers; and Internal Quality Auditors (IQAs) in cooperation with all the officials, process owners, faculty, staff, and students.

The official results of the auditing are anticipated to be forwarded to the university for appropriate action for the granting of the recertification.
