LSPU tapped to extend expertise in bookkeeping among Laguna SK treasurers

An initial consultation meeting was held between the representatives of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Laguna on the potential of offering bookkeeping training among SK treasurers in the province, Jan. 9.

The dialogue held at the Conference Hall, LSPU-San Pablo City Campus (LSPU-SPCC), was an initiative of Hon. Bhenj Stephen Aningalan Felismino, Provincial SK Federation President and (ex-Officio) Board Member of Laguna, to comply with the issuance of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular No. 2023-167, which sets the guidelines on appointing SK secretaries and treasurers.

Clause 1.4.4. of the said memorandum states that the appointed SK treasurers “shall undergo a mandatory bookkeeping training and be duly certified by, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) before assumption office.”

Dr. Mario R. Briones, University President, headed the dialogue with Dr. Desiree Wagan, Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA); and Mr. Avelino B. Audije and Dr. Marierose P. Valenzuela, CBAA faculty members.

With the anticipated participants of more than 600 SK treasurers, Pres. Briones recommended the involvement of all the campuses, delivering simultaneous sessions among the Sta. Cruz Campus, Siniloan Campus, San Pablo City Campus, and Los Baños Campus.

Dr. Wagan also recommended the clustering of participants between those with and without background in business administration, accountancy, finance, economic, or bookkeeping, to tailor-fit the trainings to be provided among the young public servants.

It was stated that the proposal derived from the meeting will be consulted with the Youth Development Affairs and other concerned agencies.

Also mentioned in the meeting was the potential of exploring training session on the topic of parliamentary process to empower the youth leaders in performing their respective duties and responsibilities.
