DOST Opens New Door Creative Hub, Starbooks now in LSPU-SPCC

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in cooperation with Laguna State Polytechnic University-San Pablo City Campus (LSPU-SPCC) had its inauguration of Philippine Science and Technology Laguna building and handling of Starbooks, Nov. 18.

The said infrastructure will serve as “creative hub” in the production development design, stated Engr. Samuel L. Caperiña, PSTC Laguna Provincial director in his short presentation on Innovation Design and Laboratory, and Science and Technology (S&T) Services of DOST-PSTC Laguna.

Starbooks will serve as a resource avenue catering vast information for students and faculty for researches. The event was a whole-day program entitled, “S&T Roadshow to Mall Show”, themed “S&T Innovation: Meeting Industries’ Global Challenges”.

First part composed of turning-over of building key and starbooks was conducted at the university in the morning, while second part showcasing five setup projects was held at SM San Pablo in the afternoon.

Present in the event were Dr. Mario Pasion, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who graced the welcome remarks in the absence of the University President, Dr. Nestor M. De Vera; Arnel Cabrera Ticson, City Councilor, delivered the opening remarks in behalf of City Mayor Loreto “Amben” Amante; Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, Regional Director of DOST region IV-A had introduced the keynote speaker; Hon. Mario G. Montejo, DOST Secretary; and Hon. Angelica Jones B. Alarva, Board Member of the third district of LagunaAlso taking part in the said event were Vice President for Internal Affairs Dr.Ricardo F. Wagan III; four LSPU campus directors, namely, who took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Dr. Ruperto Espinueva, of SPC, Dr. Roberto Miranda of Sta. Cruz, Prof. Romulo Balliesteros of Siniloan and Dr. Nestor Bunal of Los Baños; DOST staff; LSPU community; and representatives from different sectors in SPC.

Rev. Fr. Teodoro T. Real, parish priest from Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Parish, led the blessing of the new building, the final activity for the morning program.

The afternoon program, showcased Setup projects at SM San Pablo were Guaranfood Manufacturing Corporation (GMC), Escaba Food Products (EFP), Natual Quantum (NQ), Gem See’s Cakeshop (GSC), and Green Harvest Food Products (GHFP.

Also part of the event were Forum on Innovation and Design Laboratory, and S&T Services of DOST-PSTC Laguna at PSTC Laguna building and Science Film Festival.
