Student-athletes march towards 1st Leg of LSPU Sports Fest 2024

A colorful and cheerful parade of student-athletes from the four regular campuses and Lopez Satellite Campus (LSC) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) welcomed the First (1st) Leg of the LSPU Sports Festival 2024 at the University Gymnasium, LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus (LSCC), April 18.

According to Mr. Francis Jose S. Dela Cruz, Director of Sports and Cultural Affairs, the delegates of the LSPU-SCC, LSPU-Siniloan Campus (SC), LSPU-San Pablo City Campus (SPCC), LSPU-Los Baños (LBC), and LSPU-LSC will battle in different sports events to determine the official representatives of the university in the regional sports competition to be held at the Palawan State University in October this year. 

The sports that are included in the first of the four legs of the sports fest are baseball, basketball, and volleyball both for men’s and women’s divisions to be held at the University Gymnasium and Laguna Sports Complex. 

With the theme, “Unifying Cultural Diversity and Revitalizing Skills through Globally Competitive Sports Activity,” Engr. Manuel Luis R. Alvarez, Campus Director of LSPU-SCC, recognized in his message during the opening ceremony the distinct cultures and differences of each campus. He also took notice of and praised the proper behavior and discipline shown by the delegates of LSPU-LSC. In this regard, he and other campus directors committed to giving incentives to the said delegates for the discipline they showed at the opening of the university-wide sports fest.

Meanwhile, Engr. Beltran P. Pedrigal, Vice President for Administration and Officer-in-Charge Campus Director of LSPU-SC, reminded the delegates to always play with the spirit of sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork.

Dr. Robert C. Agatep, Vice President for Research Development and Extension, reminded the student-athletes to stay hydrated by drinking water and play well by avoiding hurting their fellow players.

Some of the highlights of the activity were the presentation of yell of the five teams, lighting of the torch, and oath of sportsmanship led by the LSPU National Athlete. 

Also taking part in the event with her words of encouragement was Prof. Florencia L. Capellan, Deputy Campus Director of LSPU-LSC. 

Other attendees of the said activity were Chairpersons of Sports and Cultural Affairs, LSPU faculty members, coaches, and delegates among the participating campuses. 

LSPU Gurus graced the event with their performance. 

Dr. Rhoneil B. Vibora served as the master of the ceremony of the activity.
