LSPU-SCC SMO inks partnership for road safety

The Security Management Office (SMO) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Sta. Cruz Campus (LSPU-SCC) spearheaded a partnership with Alpha Driving Academy for road safety and accident prevention measures education, Aug. 15.

The collaboration aims to train students and employees of  LSPU in road policies and regulations. Upon completing sixteen (16) hours of seminar (theoretical driving course), they will be provided with a certificate of completion which is a mandatory prerequisite when applying for a student permit at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

This partnership completes the driving education initiative of the LSPU's four campuses this year with the Alpha Driving Academy tapped by the Sta. Cruz Campus, Siniloan Campus, and Los Baños Campus, and the Dreams Driving Academy by the San Pablo City Campus.

A/Prof. Ronaldo S. Maglapuz CSP,  Director of the Security Management Office, shared that the partnership covers driving courses (theoretical and practical), free theoretical driving course certification to LSPU students and employees, and education and assistance in acquiring a student permit and non-professional driver’s license.

Engr. Beltran P. Pedrigal, Vice President for Administration, explained that the SMO will be requiring a “car pass sticker” for all vehicles that wish to enter and park inside the campus. Driver’s license and car registration are the major requirements in applying for the car pass. This security measure aims to manage the number of automobiles entering the university premises.

Ms. Avegail C. Sopeña, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alpha Driving Academy, thanked the university administration for giving them the opportunity to extend their “Ligtas na Kalsada” advocacy. She said that the Academy will ensure that enrollees will be well-equipped with road safety knowledge and information on traffic laws and regulations upon issuance of certificate.

Ms. Sopeña stressed,  “Road safety is anchored on prevention and the first step is education. It is a shared responsibility.”

Engr. Manuel Luis R. Alvarez, Campus Director of LSPU-SCC, envisioned this partnership as an opportunity to extend the program through selected academic programs (i.e., automotive course for undergraduate programs).
