LSPU preps graduating students for work

As part of its initiative towards work-ready graduates, the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), through the collaboration of the Alumni Affairs and Placement Services (AAPS) and Guidance and Counselling Unit (GCU), held the online Exit Conference Labor Education for Graduating Students, May 31.

According to Mr. Niño Lito Jake S. Briones, Guidance Counselor of the LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus (LSPU-SCC), there is a need to ensure that students are well-informed about the market, trends, and expectations of employers to succeed in their respective industries. He noted that the said activity is one of the ways how the university facilitates the students transition from academic to professional life.

In his opening remarks, Engr. Manuel Luis R. Alvarez, Campus Director of LSPU-SCC, expressed his gratitude for having this kind of activity for graduating students. He told the participants to look back at where they came from, including the University and their professors.

Engr. Alvarez also encouraged the graduating class to align their target profession with their training, an aspect that is critical in measuring the University’s performance.

Dr. Liza L. Bartolome, Chairperson of AAPS, explained that the conference aimed to equip graduating students and job seekers with essential knowledge and skills regarding labor rights, employment opportunities, and professional development.

For her motivational speech, Dr. Nida C. Tagalag, Education Program Supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd), shared some factors to succeed. She also shared her personal experiences in achieving her dreams in life, especially those she learned at LSPU as one of its alumnae.

Dr. Tagalag shared her “GPS” to guide the students on their journey, an acronym that stands for God’s providence and Gratitude, Perseverance and Prayer, and Selflessness and Success.

Sharing of learning from the conference, awarding of certificates, and exit evaluation followed the talk proper.

Ms. Geezele C. Nequinto served as the lady of the ceremony of the said activity.
