The LSPU Fiery Fox of the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Siniloan Campus (LSPU-SC) proved their computing prowess in the 2024 Calabarzon Cybersecurity Competition of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Philippine National Computer Emergency Response team (National CERT-PH) held at the Lima Park Hotel, Batangas, June 6.
The LSPU Fiery Fox snatched the 1st runner up title among the 12 finalists for the regional title.
The 200 OK Team of the National University-Laguna was named the champion while the AMAER Team of the AMA Computer College East Rizal was named the second runner up.
Leigh Inna C. Jamolin, Joseph Benjamin O. Sollestre, Sean Francis C. Bagongon, and John Philip G. Sabinet, under the mentorship of Jemar A. Banawa, of the College of Computer Studies (CCS), composed the LSPU Fiery Fox.
With the theme “Today’s Generation, Tomorrow’s Champion: Sharing the Future of Cybersecurity through Shared Responsibility,” the HackForGov Capture-the-Flag (CTF) competition aims to raise awareness among students about the importance of cybersecurity and provide hands-on experience with techniques used in the virtual world. It features a series of challenges and scenarios simulating real-world cyber threats, covering various categories such as network security, web security, cryptography, and incident response.
Out of the 31 teams that registered for the competition, only 12 finalists were chosen to compete for the top spot. The champion will represent the region in the national competition.
