GAD, OSAS host seminar to empower employees on gender, peace, and human rights

The Gender and Development (GAD) in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Los Baños Campus (LSPU-LBC) facilitated a seminar as part of the the university-wide simultaneous “GAD Capacity Building Program on Gender, Peace, and Human Rights” at the LSPU-LBC Board Room, May 21.

The activity capacitated all the faculty and administrative staff of the campus in integrating gender perspectives, promoting peace, and upholding human rights in their respective spheres of influence.

Ms. Mary Ann S. Hernandez, LSPU-LBC GAD Chairperson, stressed the importance of fostering inclusivity, diversity, and respect within the academic community.

“Let us not only deepen our understanding of these crucial issues but also commit ourselves to action and advocacy…Together, let us create an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and able to thrive both personally and professionally,” Hernandez stated.

During the activity, Ms. Eden Joy L. Eugenio, President of the LSPU-LBC Non-Teaching Association (NTEA), outlined NTEA’s plans and activities such as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration; volunteering initiatives; free Civil Service Commission (CSC) exam review; and partnership with agencies for disaster response and relief training, blood donation, health and safety education, and youth engagement activities.

Likewise, Dr. Jefferson L. Lerios, President of the LSPU-LBC Faculty Association (FA), shared the plans of the FA including the accreditation of the Department of Labor and Employment-Bureau of Labor Relations (DOLE-BLR) and CSC, SEC registration, development of sustainable FA programs, and establishment of income-generating projects of the association.

The event also engaged the faculty and non-teaching staff in a dialogue to solicit suggestions and address their concerns.

Meanwhile, Prof. Aimee B. Maloles from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) discussed mental health in the academe. She highlighted factors contributing to workplace mental health issues, debunked myths, and shared strategies for managing mental health concerns.

The said activity was spearheaded by the GAD chaired by Ms. Mary Ann S. Hernandez and the OSAS headed by Dr. Flora H. Salandanan. ###
