CCS enters academe-industry tie-up for faculty, students skills progression

The College of Computers Studies (CCS) of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) collaborated with the University of Perpetual Help System (UPHS)-Laguna and the International Business Machines (IBM) corporation on a work immersion and skills training project starting the month of September.

This tripartite Skills Progression Partnership (SkiPP) Program is supported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under its Boosting Education through Smart Technologies (BEST) Project.

The project primarily aims to respond to the current challenges concerning the country’s level of information technology and computing science knowledge and skills. Specifically, it covers student and faculty immersion in the industry to bridge the gap between academic training and industry practices and expectations.

The project rolled out with a two-day onsite visitation at the IBM facility in the University of the Philippines (UP) Ayala Technohub, Quezon City, and the Asia Pacific College (APC), Makati, Sep. 25-26.

Mr. Ronnel A. dela Cruz and Mr. Joesua R. Manzanero, Associate Dean and On-the-job Training (OJT) Coordinator of CCS, headed the said facility and college visit.

The student OJT program covers introduction to the program, soft skills training, learn and shadows component, and case study and final project. Meanwhile, faculty immersion covers artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.
