LSPU Los Baños’ journalism circle, The Bay Breeze Group of Publications, hosted the ninth LSPU Alliance of Campus Journalists’ University-Wide Conference held at Rock Point Hotel, Calamba City, Oct. 29-31.
As campus journalists from the Laguna State Polytechnic University system reunites together for this event after a year with the theme “Empowering Campus Journalists Through Social and Moral Awareness”, over 40 campus journalists from the four campuses of the LSPU system came together to compete in 12 categories.
The power house of speakers included former TOEI Philippines animator and in-betweener German Robale Paelmo for Graphics Illustration and Editorial Cartooning contest; Rappler Philippines Reporter Beatrice Lauren Go for Sports Writing; Philippine Graphic editor-in-chief Joel Pablo Salud for Editorial and Opinion Writing; “Ang Ikatlong Anti-Kristo” author and Carlos Palanca awardee Eros Atalia for Feature and Literary Writing; Catholic Media writer Darryl Reyes for Copyreading and Headline Writing and News Writing; former House of Representatives political affairs officer Kabzeel Sheba Catapang for DevComm writing; Manila Bulletin comic strip illustrator Ardie Aquino for Comic Strip Drawing; and Batangas province’s Division Coordinator for Journalism Danilo Mutia for Photojournalism competition. For the socialization night, the confab invited motivational speaker and writer Mr. Speaks.
The event ended with an awarding ceremony where Sta. Cruz campus’ publication, The Gears took the top spot as “Best Contingent Campus”, while San Pablo City campus came in second, Los Baños campus ranked third followed by the Siniloan campus.
