Mabalacat City College benchmarks LSPU CHMT's Hot and Cold Kitchen

As part of their commitment to delivering exceptional education and practical training to their students, the Mabalacat City College (MCC) visited the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Sta Cruz Main Campus (LSPU-SCC) to benchmark the Hot and Cold Kitchen facility of the College of Hospitality Management and Tourism (CHMT), May 28.

The said benchmarking also aimed at elevating MCC’s Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program to the status of National Community College with a standardized laboratory.

In his welcome remarks, Engr. Manuel Luis R. Alvarez, Campus Director of LSPU-SCC, stated that Dr. Mario R. Briones, LSPU President, always welcomes everyone who wants to benchmark in our university to share our best practices. He also shared the history of how our university’s Hot and Cold Kitchen was built with the support of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), headed by Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, CHED Chair.

Ms. Jennyfer N. Merza, Dean of the Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management of MCC, introduced their team. She shared that they wanted to learn more about the following aspects of the Hot and Cold Kitchen: equipment and facilities; operational procedures; and how theoretical knowledge is integrated with practical experience in the kitchen setting.

Meanwhile, Dr. Charmine V. Rivera, Dean of CHMT, showed the visitors the former setup of the University’s hot and cold kitchen through a visual presentation. She also shared their story on how they fulfilled their goal of acquiring this facility for the optimum learning experience of students. Finally, Dean Rivera added that the University has a working hotel and is currently completing the CHMT bar.

After the short presentation, the MCC officials had the opportunity to have a tour at the Hot and Cold Kitchen and Hotel of LSPU.

Also present during the benchmark activity were Dr. Michelle Aguialr-Ong, President; Ms. Happy S. Pelayo, Vice President for Finance and Administration; Mr. Neil P. Rigdao, Assistant Vice President for Administration; Chef Harold Van A. Aquino-BSHM Program Head; Chef Joven Ocampo, BSHM Faculty from MCC; and personnel of LSPU CHMT.
