LSPU students, stakeholders increase climate change awareness

The students of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and stakeholders participated in a forum on Environmental Protection and Climate Change Action hosted by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) held at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Function Hall, LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus, May 16.

The said forum is an initiative of the CCC, the policy-making body of the government which focuses to assess climate change and its ecological impact in the Philippines.

In his welcome remarks Engr. Beltran P. Pedrigal, Vice President for Administration, nodded the relevance of the topic to educate everyone on how to help and what can be done to reduce the negative impact of climate change in our community. He asserted the commitment of the LSPU to its mandate of protecting the environment.

Atty. Cyrelle Kim Ferrer, a representative of CCC, explained their encouragement and involvement of the students and other stakeholders in the forum, banking on youth being vocal in their advocacies, a quality that leaders can tap to address issues.

“Nakikinig ang mga estudyante kasi mas expose[d sila] sa usaping ito,” Atty. Ferrer said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Albert P. Dela Cruz, Sr., Climate Change Commissioner, focused his discussion on climate resiliency, food and human security, carbon footprint and trading, waste-to-energy technologies, green jobs, and the role of our young people in safeguarding our ecology and promoting sustainable development goals.

He also focused on emphasizing the difference of climate opinion and climate conclusion among the students.

Present in the forum were Mr. Erwin Napiza, Director for University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (UDRRM); LSPU students and faculty members; and CCC representatives.
