According to the World Health Organization, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 670,000 deaths globally in 2022. Breast cancer occurs in every country of the world in women at any age after puberty but with increasing rates in later life.

This is the reason why the Gender and Development (GAD) office of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) continues to conduct seminars, shared Dr. Maria Rellie B. Kalacas, Chairperson of Gender and Development (GAD), on their Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar among female employees of the University held the CHMT Function Hall, March 15.

On the topic “Empowering Women’s Health: Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Strategies,” Dr. May M. Veridiano, resource speaker, highlighted the factors that can cause breast cancer and ways to reduce the risk of acquiring it.

She also taught the participants how to conduct a Self-Breast Exam to determine the need to seek professional medical immediately.

In her closing remarks, Arla A. Redoña, Chairperson of Administrative Services, thanked everyone for attending the seminar. She also expressed her appreciation to Dr. Veridiano for sharing her knowledge in raising awareness and promoting proactive measures in the fight against breast cancer.

GAD office also encourages everyone to wear clothing with a touch of purple on all Fridays of March to signify support for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Ms. Fatima Quimbao served as the lady of the ceremonies during the seminar.
