LSPU eyes Institutional Accreditation

SINILOAN CAMPUS—After its success in ISO 9001:2015 certification, the university is set off for a new accreditation process in its continual pursuit for excellence as a premier state university in Calabarzon.

The Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) conducted an orientation on the Institutional Accreditation (IA) led by Dr. Manuel T. Corpus, President of the Accreditation Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Inc. and Dr. Maria Glenda O. De Lara, Treasurer and Trustee of AACCUP Inc., Dec. 11.

Dr. Corpus provided a background of what IA is, differentiating it from program accreditation; the former focuses on the management system while the latter deals with the program or course itself.

Meanwhile, Dr. De Lara gave a detailed discussions on the parameters and areas that will be covered by the IA such as key results area, area structure, rating scale and other specific areas to be covered.

Dr. Corpus commended the University for accomplishing ISO certification, saying that it is a good preparation for IA.

FIVE-MONTH CHALLENGE

After the lecture, University President Dr. Nestor M. de Vera expressed his desire to accomplish IA in five months, having the month of April as the approximated date of accomplishment.

Pres. De Vera is optimistic that the university can accomplish it since we have just underwent the ISO certification; documents are prepared, hence, there are only necessary changes needed with respect to specifications of IA.

A man of action, Dr. De Vera went on by informing the attendees composed of the vice presidents, campus directors and other program directors of his plan to perform a bench marking the next day, Nov. 12.

As suggested by Dr. Corpus, the university administration headed off to Bulacan State University (BulSU) to conduct the bench making. Dr. De Vera were with the Vice Presidents (VP) Dr. Eden C. Callo (Academic Affairs) and VP Efren R. Dela Paz (Adminis-tration); campus directors Dr. Mario R. Briones (San Pablo Campus), Dr. Daniel B. Bunal (Los Baños Campus, Engr. Joseph M. Cabiente (Sta. Cruz) and Engr. Beltran Pedrigal (Siniloan Campus); Curriculum Instruction Development and Quality Assurance (CIDQA) Director, Dr. Zenaida O. Vitasa; and College of Industrial Technology Dean, Dr. Edilberto Z. Andal.

EVERYONE IS INVOLVED

Dr. De Lara urged the participation of everyone for the success of IA.

She also shared her observation during her accreditation in other universities, aimed to give the university points to remember in preparation for the accreditation.

‘SPECIAL UNIVERSITY’

Dr. Corpus shared that LSPU has always been special for him.

“This is my first assignment,” he said, explaining how Siiniloan Campus, known by then as Laguna State Polytechnic College (LSPC), was the first college he had accredited.

“I will give you my support,” Dr. Corpus said, comforting the university of his availability in time of need for the preparation of IA.

STRATEGY

Dr. Corpus gave points the university may consider to succeed in IA such as choosing one campus for which IA will be done and creating of teams responsible for different areas for accreditation.

With the intricacy and technicality of the accreditation process, one focused campus for IA would be strategic centralization; it is the similar strategy done by most universities that underwent and succeeded in IA. Creation of teams for each area is tantamount to assure hands-on preparation and management of documents pertinent to accreditation.
