Seven LSPU English Faculty Attend Research Productivity and Writeshop at De La Salle University, Manila

For personal and professional development, the university selected seven (7) English Faculty to participate in the three-day professional develop-ment training on Research Productivity and Research Writeshop which was a project sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education held at De La Salle University, Manila from February 9-11, 2017.

The training generally aims to train HEI participants to plan research projects and guide them in writing reports for publication. Moreover, the training has five (5) specific objectives; to provide four re-search themes where teachers can set their own research agenda, to connect with international experts and researchers as mentors during training, to provide training in writing research proposals, to train teachers to write for publication in reputable journals, and to help them form research teams.

Dr. Paul Kei Matsuda, from Arizona State University discussed on “Teaching and Assessing Writ-ing in a Multilingual Context: Research and Practice.” Dr. Ken Hyland talked about “Feedback on Stu-dent Writing: What, how and why bother.” Dr. Willy A. Renandya from the National Institute of Educa-tion, Singapore talked on “Effective Strategies for Enhancing L2 Proficiency” while Dr. Shirley N. Dita discussed on “Corpus Linguistics as a Resource in Grammar Teaching and Curriculum Development.”

More than 30 L2 paper presenters highlighted the conference which provided opportunities and research backgrounds for LSPU English faculty and other teachers from across the country. During the exit activity, teachers were requested to come up with research proposals on language teaching and learning for evaluation of DLSU and to be proposed for funding of CHED in the near future.
