The Laguna State Polytechnic University-Los Baños Campus (LSPU-LBC) extends assistance to the Calamba City Jail Dormitory through the conduct of a Cybercrime Awareness Seminar for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and personnel of the said facility, April 12.
Mr. Merari H. Payay, faculty of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), served as the resource person for the said activity.
The seminar covered concepts on cybercrime and cybersecurity, online vulnerabilities and risks, cyber and social engineering attacks, and basic cybersecurity measures.
JSUPT Adelaida A. Taburada, Calamba City Jail Warden, recognized the proliferation of cybercrimes in the country with the advancement of technology, hence, the request for such a seminar to keep personnel safe from cybersecurity and phishing threats and expose PDL to such cybercrime happening outside their facility.
It could be recalled that in February, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. instructed the Philippine National Police to intensify its anti-cybercrime efforts in response to the increasing cybercrime incidents in the Philippines, with online scams being the most prevalent.
Republic Act 10175, also known as the “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012”, was enacted on September 12, 2012 by the Philippine Congress to address online crimes, protect national security, and preserve privacy and data protection. It outlines punishable acts, penalties, and its enforcement and implementation. ###
