LSPU extends help to Taal evacuees

Living by one of its mandates as a State University,  the Laguna State Polytechnic University  (LSPU)  took part in giving aid to the residents  affected by the activity of the Taal volcano,  Jan. 19.

Authorities had urged evacuation of people, especially those within the danger zone or the 14-kilometer radius after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) raised the alert level to four, which means that an "explosive eruption" could happen in the coming hours or days.

Residents at risk sought shelter evacuations centers, most of which were schools and universities. There were others who were taken in by relatives in nearby provinces.

To aid the said evacuees, different government and private organizations provided relief operations, one of which is LSPU.

With the directives of Dr. Mario R. Briones of the office of the University President (OUP), the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), in collaboration with the Gender and Development (GAD) and Training and Extension Services (ETS), the University started a call for donations from different colleges among its four campuses.

The humanitarian project is officially called “LSPU Tulong Alalay: Bangon Batangas”.

Likewise, students, alumni, and other organizations responded to call and sent their donations to the University, with the San Pablo City Campus (SPCC) as the main drop-off area.

On January 19, the University administrative officials and staff delivered the relief goods to three evacuation centers in Batangas, namely: San Juan Elementary School, Batangas State University-Malvar Campus, and Malvar National High School (Senior High).***
