CHMT Skills Summit 2024 highlights hospitality and tourism excellence at LSPU-LBC

The College of Hospitality Management and Tourism students of the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Los Baños Campus (LSPU-LBC) showcased their skills and talents during the CHMT Skills Summit 2024 with the theme “Las Filipinas: celebrating the rich cultural heritage and tourism treasure of the Philippine regions,” June 4-7.

The four-day celebration featured various activities and contests, including the First Tourism and Hospitality Young Entrepreneurs Summit (THYES) booth expo, yell competition, personal development workshop, turbulence announcement, flight safety demonstration, table skirting, table set-up competition, bed making competition, front office service, cook-off competition, HM & TM quiz bee, waiter’s relay, mocktail competition, MICE proposal, virtual tour guiding, fruit and vegetable carving, cake decorating competition, and tour package proposal.

The summit not only celebrated the students' skills but also underscored the importance of cultural heritage and collaborative learning.

Dr. Imee Prescilla P. Sanchez, Head of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) of LSPU-LBC, praised the efforts of the students and faculty in promoting the rich culture of the Philippines.

“Let us take this opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our country,” Dr. Sanchez encouraged.

Students were grouped to represent various regions of the country, including Mimaropa, Bicol Region, CARAGA, NCR, and Central Visayas, showcasing the diversity and cultural richness of these areas.

LSPU Alumnus Batch 2010/2011 Mr. Raldy “Nio” De Guzman, Jr. delivered an inspirational message to the students, encouraging them to chase success by dreaming big.

“You just have to dream bigger. Huwag mong i-allow ‘yong iba na magdefine ng success para sa’yo,” Mr. Nio said.

He also shared a guiding principle from his career: “The quality of work reflects the quality of your character. Focus on excellence in all you do, and success will follow.”

During a personal development session, Mr. Dennis N. Del Mar, Human Resources Management Cabin Crew Sales and Training Manager of PTC Aviation Training Center Inc., advised students to adhere to grooming standards for a lasting impact. He emphasized the power of a simple smile, saying, “Micro efforts will result in macro effects.”

On June 6, the summit will exhibit products of LSPU alumni entrepreneurs, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit nurtured at the university.

The winners of the various contests will be announced during the Gabi ng Parangal at the Los Baños Multipurpose Evacuation Center on June 7.

The said activity was organized by the CHMT headed by Associate Dean Aprilyn E. Etorma in coordination with the Association of Hospitality Management and Tourism Students. Also present during the activity was Faculty Regent Dr. Chester Alexis C. Buama. ###
