Since Laguna State Polytechnic University’s aim to become ISO certified involves inclusiveness and improved systems, teaching and non-teaching staff of the university were gathered for an orientation, CHMT Function Hall, Nov. 11.
“Nabasa na tayo, magpakabasa na tayo,” President Nestor M. De Vera said during one of the earlier series of meetings held as preparation for the ISO certification.
Efforts rendered by the university administration had the aim to achieve ISO 9001:2008 or Quality Management Systems certification.
“Quality Managements Systems are commonly utilized by companies as assurance to quality service to their customers,” Curriculum, Instruction Development and Quality Assurance Chairperson, Dr. Zenaida O. Vitasa shared. “But as for the university, we need Quality Management Systems to ensure quality learning of our customers – the students,” she added.
Further introduction was delivered by the Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, A/Prof. Virgilio Bartolome. It was then followed by the statement of purpose from the Vice President for Administration, VP Nestor Mendoza.
“Everyone deserves to know what we are doing,” Internal Quality Auditor, Diane S. Guieb expressed. “During the first audits, everything is random,” she then emphasized.
While discussing LSPU’s ISO journey, Guieb gave more emphasis on the information dissemination as a major factor in the success of ISO. She said that everyone - faculty, staff and students - should have awareness on the actions done by the university.
It was further announced that Internal Quality Auditing is going to be held on December 2-5, 2016. This process shall seek non-conformities or flaws from the improved systems.
On the other hand, Dr. Vitasa, while administering the orientation proper, clarified that the university is not establishing a completely new system; instead, the existing systems and processes are being systematized based on ISO standards.
Systematizing of the existing system is majorly being done through the implementation of coded forms so the directors and deans from the various offices of the university introduced the said forms to the attendees.
