As Laguna State Polytechnic University envisioned to be the prime molder of the future labor force in the province, it started its journey to attain a standardized system and quality enrichment through undergoing ISO 9001;2008 certification.
“Attaining this kind of certification ensures that international standards are given through the services offered by our university,” President De Vera said in one of the orientation programs as this certification officially began August 2015.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) gives the ISO 9001:2008 or the Quality Management Systems certification to companies or organizations that can “demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.”
In preparation for the international standardization of the university, the academic community underwent rigid exercises, meetings and workshops to make necessary adjustments for this eventuality. Said activities were done to determine the essential steps to pursue and to further observe what subsequent steps are yet to be done as Engr. Helen Evalle, the university’s ISO consultant, said in one of the ISO Coordination meetings, that it is not yet late for LSPU to become ISO 9001:2008 certified.
More so, Engr. Evalle provided information on Customer Focus, Leadership, Involvement of People, Process Approach, System Approach, Continual Improvement, Factual Approach and Supplier Relationship, focusing more on the essentials in achieving quality system.
As the shifting of the calendar was implemented, August 10 marked the date of utilizing coded forms by the University for administrative and academic purposes and these forms are same of process and adjustments for the four campuses as Dr. Zenaida O. Vitasa articulated that there would not be a new system on the ISO process but systematizing the existing system inclined with international standards.
Complying with the process, LSPU formulated its Quality Policy stating its commitment to “continual improvement to provide quality, effective and efficient services to the University Stakeholder’s highest level of satisfaction through a dynamic and excellent management system imbued with utmost integrity, professionalism and innovation.”
Also, Mandatory Procedures were made concurrently from the President’s Office to the Document Control Office in amenability with ISO. These include Control of Records and Documents, Internal Audit and Control of Non-Conformance, Corrective and Preventive Actions. ISO related plans scheduled this December are the Internal Quality Audit training as Ms. Diane Guieb, the Internal Quality Auditor said that in ISO audit, everything would be random that is why the academe deserve to know what the community is doing. Meanwhile, a Mock audit is scheduled on February 2017 with the LSPU ISO team together with ISO consultant, Engr. Evalle.
