LSPU ties up with TTrU, Vietnam

Dr. Nestor M. De Vera, the Laguna State Polytechnic University President inked a Memorandum of Agreement with another University in Vietnam, the Tan Trao University (TTrU). Dr. Duc Ba Nguyen, TTrU President with Ms. Do Hai Yen and Ms. Pham Thi Kien Trang, Deputy Head of Science Management and International Relations Office and Deputy Head of Department of Economics and Business Administration respectively, personally came to the Philippines for the LSPU-TTrU MoA signing held on February 6, 2018 at the Conference Hall of San Pablo Campus.

The program commenced at 10:00 in the morning with a communal recitation of a prayer and the singing of the National Anthem which was followed by the video presentation of LSPU in a Nutshell. The signing took place with a formal yet festive ambience as witnessed by the senior officials of both Universities. The two Presidents exchanged University emblems as token of the budding academic tie and looked forward to having lasting mutual relationship to corroborate in furthering education, research, and training with global perspectives. Their rhetoric divulged some common undertakings by the two Universities; thus, they verbally agreed to create Teacher Exchange Programs and Student Exchange Programs and to co-host International Conferences, too.

Specifically, President Nguyen expressed his heartfelt appreciation of the LSPU’s warm accommodation. He said that he hoped to welcome LSPU officials to TTrU in the future. He briefly introduced and described his University in a short well-read discourse. In reply, Hon. Dr. de Vera articulated his felicity and appreciation of Dr. Nguyen’s vehement desire to partner and grow with LSPU. He identified LSPU campuses’ strength/main thrusts and the specific areas by which LSPU may assist TTrU’s faculty members, researchers, and students.  He also mentioned the Master of Arts in English Language Program that LSPU has been offering to Vietnamese EFL teachers from Thai Nguyen City and its outskirt, the Intensive English Program for EFL students, and the American (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) TESOL that LSPU offers to ESL and EFL teachers and Education students from Universities not just in the country but from universities in the Philippines’ neighboring Asian countries. He also welcomed the idea of TTrU sending their teachers/lecturers to LSPU not just for collaboration but for additional personal income.

A short meeting about the initial programs to be undertaken took place before lunch. Miss Ha spoke for the group and asked for the design of one month Intensive English Class for Vietnamese Secondary and High School students, 14- 18 years old. It will be conducted during summer at LSPU and will be dubbed “Summer Camp”. She requested the teaching of both culture, social skills, and English language. In addition, she also expressed TTrU’s desire to accommodate LSPU CTE student teachers come September of 2018. Nevertheless, TTrU requested for at least five (5) Student Teachers this coming June of 2018. The speaker of the delegation and the LSPU Officer In-Charge of International Affairs agreed to iron out the plans with other possible specific offerings. The meeting was adjourned with a sumptuous lunch.
